The West Side Public Xeriscape Gardens project is an ecotone improvement for the West Side Wastewater Treatment Plant and adjacent Woolsey Wet Prairie Sanctuary, a heritage Ozark preserve―both owned by the City of Fayetteville. The project remediates ecological degradation of the prairie due to erosion from the facility’s raised pad, invasive turf, and unmanaged stormwater/irrigation runoff. The garden substitutes a naturalized Ozark plant community compatible with the prairie, providing bird watching and ecotourism opportunities among this sculpted garden.
